In the first match, Anatoly Buyalsky’s trainees lost to Poland by nine points, but then took a convincing revenge of 79:62 at home. Belarus took the initiative early in the match and led by 21 points halfway through, but allowed the Poles to catch up by nine points in the second half. They then began playing more aggressively, to take a confident win. Anastasia Veremeenko was named ‘top scoring player’, having bagged 19 points. After the match, the Belarusians topped the tournament table within their group, with 6 points, ahead of Poland and Belgium (3 points each). The Belgians had one reserve match yet to play.
On November 19th, Belarusian basketballers will play Belgium, away, and the selective round will close on November 23rd, with a match between Poland and Belgium. The teams in first place in each group will go through to the finals, as will those in second place across the six groups.
