Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) proposes that members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) co-operate regarding renewable energy sources
“In future this topic should become one of the most important areas of collaboration between EAEU member states,” notes Adamkul Zhunusov, Member of the Board and Minister in charge of Energy and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission.
He believes that the development of integration between the states is very important, as is close interaction between organisations aiming to facilitate common decisions regarding the shift towards the green economy. “Under the worsening of the global ecological situation, climate change and the reduction of deposits of fuel and energy resources, issues of green growth, the development of renewable energy sources and provision of ecological security acquire special importance. Meanwhile, the union of energy markets and agreed energy policy of the states facilitates the promotion and development of mechanisms to support the use of renewable energy sources,” explains Mr. Zhunusov.
In this context, the Eurasian Economic Commission attaches special importance to the Astana initiative and Green Bridge partnership programme, which aims to shift towards the green economy on a vast scale in various regions of Europe, Asia and the Pacific Ocean. Today this programme encompasses EAEU member states: Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia.
