Nadezhda Zhvirblya, a 21-year-old student of the College of Art in Grodno, has chosen as a basis for her picture, a covering from processed auto-tyre casings, painted on it in gouache, a two-metre portrait of the American comedian and actor, Robin Williams, who recently passed away
The young artist has found the adequate platform in Devyatovka ‘bedroom’ suburb, not far off a tyre processing shop. The girl thinks that this place is very good — it’s convenient to look at large-scale street pictures from far away, and here, there are a lot of residential high-rise houses from whose windows there is a perfect view of the portrait. But Nadezhda thinks that her innovative project is more ecological than art, “It’s my first experience in painting a picture on street rubber covering. It has been very unusual to estimate the proportions of the face mathematically. And it’s necessary, when you are working in big scale. Through my work, I want to draw attention to the fact that processed rubber casings are material, which can be used, not only in road building but also in art. It’s very easy to paint on it. And not only in gouache but also in acrylic and oil paints.”
According to estimates of the artist, the street picture on rubber will exist for at least 5 years. In the near future, she plans to find a platform to pay her tribute to the memory of Michael Jackson.
