Putin, Lukashenko focused on fertiliser supplies – among other topics

Fertiliser supplies to the global market became one of the topics for discussion by presidents Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin, BelTA reports

The Russian leader said that he planned to inform his Belarusian colleague on the progress and results of the recent BRICS discussions. “Many of the speakers shared concerns related to interruptions in the supply of food and fertilisers, rising food prices on the world market. Bearing in mind that Belarus and Russia are the major suppliers to the world market, I would also like to talk to you about this in terms of meeting the needs of the global market and our regular customers,” he said.

It is well known that Belarus and Russia occupy a great share on the world market; it reaches up to 25 percent in some fertilisers. “This is a very significant volume on the world market, and insufficient fertilising definitely reduces the harvest prospects for the next year. All this is very sad," Vladimir Putin said. "We agreed to take all possible measures to meet the demand of our consumers and our customers."

Topics related to ensuring security in the region and in the world as a whole were also high on the agenda, and Vladimir Putin commented, “Many issues are coming to the fore here, and I will inform you on all these problems, in relation to the Donbass problems.”

"Of course, issues related to the Union State building remain topical as well,” the Russian leader continued. “Almost everything has been agreed upon by our relevant departments, and the goals set now need to be realised. So we have a wide range of issue to discuss."
