Presidential Sports Club and Special Olympics agree to co-operate

A few weeks ago, a Republican football tournament was held in the village of Ulla in the Beshenkovichi District with participation of women's teams training under the Special Olympics system. During the competition, the Head of the Presidential Sports Club, Dmitry Lukashenko, noted that many important events are held under the auspices of the Belarusian Special Olympics Committee. “I will say for the future: a bilateral memorandum of co-operation will be signed in the future," he stressed then.

The plans have already been realised: the two sides have signed a co-operation agreement.

According to Larisa Tabolina, the Executive Director of the Belarusian Special Olympics Committee, the organisations began co-operating several years ago when the Presidential Sports Club offered its assistance in organising participation of sportsmen in Special Olympics World Games.

“Signing of this memorandum will enhance our co-operation, bringing it to a qualitatively new level,” Ms. Tabolina commented. “It aims to hold events, with support of the Presidential Sports Club, which will enable us to realise the main goals of our Special Olympics movement: to offer social rehabilitation of children with special needs, instil healthy lifestyle habits in them and form sports skills.”

More than ten events are planned to be jointly held in 2022 – all aimed at rehabilitation of children with special needs through physical education and sports. Moreover, they will help promote volunteer, medical, parental and many other programmes of the special Olympic movement in Belarus.
