Nuclear fuel production facility planned for construction in Ukraine

Energoatom, the operator of Ukrainian nuclear power plants, intends to build a plant for production of nuclear fuel near the city of Yuzhnoukrainsk in the Nikolaev Region, TASS reports

Energoatom CEO Petro Kotin said in a video on the company's YouTube channel, “We have decided to build a plant near the city of Yuzhnoukrainsk. I could hardly think that city residents would provide such great support.” He noted that Ukraine needs to have sources of nuclear fuel supplies, and domestic production could be one of them.

Mr. Kotin added that nuclear fuel is planned to be produced with use of Westinghouse technologies, “By now, we have completely stopped using Russian nuclear fuel, we take fuel only from Westinghouse.”
