Morawiecki called on the EU to abandon green energy
To ensure its energy security, the European Union needs to return to the use of traditional energy sources, including coal, and abandon green energy for some time – as stated by Poland’s Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in an article posted by the Financial Times, RIA Novosti reports
According to the Polish Pm, the green transition cannot come at the cost of basic security of the European Union.
“And if the situation forces us to do so, then we must not hesitate to return temporarily to traditional sources of energy. Even if a short-term return to coal means postponing our ambitious climate goals, it may be a necessary condition of maintaining a strong European community,” he noted.
In the article Mateusz Morawiecki referred to the current inflation in the EU, the threat of fuel shortages for millions of citizens and the rise in electricity prices in the region. The Polish authorities, he said, ‘have long been calling for changes that will block artificial increases in energy prices’.
The Polish Ministry of Climate and Environment canceled for 60 days the requirements for the quality of coal needed for heating.
