Lukashenko: we are going to Africa not with some illusory democratic values, but with the aim of working for the benefit of Zimbabweans
Belarus aims to work jointly with the leadership of Zimbabwe for the benefit of the people of this country – as the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, noted following his today’s talks with the President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa, BelTA reports
"We deeply respect and are grateful to the people of Zimbabwe, and I want to emphasise that we are going to Africa not to bring there some illusory democratic values – but to work together with your leaders for the benefit of the people of Zimbabwe," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The Head of State noted that – as part of the mechanisation programme launched in 2020 – the Belarusian side has supplied more than 1,800 tractors and about 80 combine harvesters to Zimbabwean farms, and this machinery has helped the country ensure its food security. "Actually, this is just the beginning. We have launched the third phase of this programme, worth over $66m. It envisages [the supply of] more than 3,700 tractors and 60 combines to local farmers over the next year and a half," he added.
Deliveries of Belarusian-made fire trucks to Zimbabwe’s local municipalities have been launched, and BELAZ mining equipment has already been successfully operating in the country. “We have agreed that we will send over 30 BELAZ dump trucks to Zimbabwe in the near future,” the Head of State said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko added that maintenance of Belarusian machinery is also provided in Zimbabwe.
