Lukashenko: time to bring agricultural sector to new technological level

It is high time to bring the country’s agricultural sector to a new technological level and introduce a precision farming system – as stated by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, during today’s meeting focusing on rural development and increasing agricultural efficiency. According to the Head of State, precision farming enables to create a favourable environment for any crop to grow, which means reducing material costs and increasing volumes and quality of produce.

“Today we have the key elements for creating a system. This is a strategy for the future,” the President underline.

The Head of State asserted that world leaders in agricultural production are investing heavily in smart technology: automatic machine control, optimal fertilisation, and crop yield monitoring. Digitalisation reaches 80 percent in their agricultural sector.

“Smart agriculture today and tomorrow is an important priority in the competition with rivals. We need a programme, including that dealing with personnel training. There is no need to drag everyone into it, start with those who want and have an opportunity. But it’s necessary to start already now. We must revolutionise agricultural machine building and agriculture,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.

At the same time, the Head of State drew attention to the fact that with proper discipline, the use of highly productive varieties of plants and animal breeds, as well as available technologies, it is possible to work one and a half or even two times better even now, “Therefore, the tasks for 2024 are much more ambitious compared to the previous results. It is necessary to produce about 10 million tonnes of grain, 5 million tonnes of sugar beets and more than a million tonnes of rapeseed per year.”
