Lukashenko: not everyone would have been able to preserve their sovereignty without EAEU

The first ten years have been passed quite successfully within the EAEU, although the number of problems and challenges in integration construction has not decreased – as stated by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko at today’s meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in an expanded format

The Head of State noted that the EAEU leaders had gathered in Moscow to sum up the development of the Eurasian Economic Union over the past ten years and determine the integration format for the future.

“Even relying on the strictest calculations, it can be stated that the first ten years have been passed quite successfully. We have almost reached the final stage of the Strategy-2025 implementation. The measures taken objectively contributed to an increase in mutual trade between the EAEU member states. By the end of 2023, its growth rate was almost 105 percent, or about $90bn in absolute figures. Importantly, the result was achieved despite the continuing difficult situation on world markets. However, the main thing is that we have learned to hear each other better,” the Belarusian leader said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko is convinced that neither GDP growth nor an increase in real incomes of the population would be possible if the EAEU members were apart. Moreover, not everyone alone would have been able to preserve their sovereignty. “Of course, a lot has been done, although the number of problems and challenges in integration construction has not decreased,” he said.
