Lukashenko: if we work effectively, COVID cases will drop within a month

In his speech at a meeting focusing on the epidemiological situation and measures taken to counter the spread of coronavirus infection, the Head of State noted that the authorities had been preparing for the fourth COVID-19 wave. The issue had always been under control, including with Aleksandr Lukashenko. In this regard, the Belarusian leader is surprised and outraged by the reaction of some Internet users who assert that the President fails to deal with the problem.

“Listen, I daily report to people on TV what I do. I can't deal with COVID related issues from morning to evening. Our ministry and thousands of doctors are engaged into this task. We have not harvested enough grain and we need to cover the shortage with corn, while also sowing winter crops in time. This also should be in focus of the President. Sanctions have been imposed on us, and I should also be on the topic and deal with this issue. There are thousands of issues of the kind,” he stated.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed another time that it’s not necessary to pressure people upon. Moreover, it does not get any better from this. “We need to treat people, be patient. If we work effectively, then – believe me – the problem will be minimised literally within a month. If we fail to treat people, if we focus on COVID and anti-COVID policies, then people will start rioting – like it has happened in Europe,” the Head of State addressed those present.

In this regard, Aleksandr Lukashenko mentioned the situation in Russia, “Gloves and masks are widely used there – and what not! However, the incidence rate is rising greater than in Belarus. You should look at what is happening worldwide and draw appropriate conclusions.”
