Lukashenko advises western diplomats in Belarus not to hurry home

During a meeting on the country’s socio-economic development today, President Lukashenko advised western diplomats in Belarus not to rush to grab their suitcases, expecting expulsion from the country against the background of the sanctions imposed, BelTA reports

"We have already noticed: a day has passed (these sanctions were going to be imposed) and some embassies are already packing their bags, saying that the President will make a decision to throw them out of the country tomorrow. I have to ease the anxiety: we are not going to take anyone's suitcases and other belongings away," the Head of State said.

"We will not kick anyone out. We will act in a civilised manner, in accordance with the norms of international law. Therefore, you – those who are packing their suitcases – listen to me: calm down, put your bags aside. If we announce you are personas non-grata, then you will have time to take these suitcases and leave the country. Although this is up to you,” the Belarusian leader added.
