Lithuanian exports to China dropped by 91.4%
Based on Chinese customs data, Lithuania’s exports to China amid a heated dispute over the Baltic state’s support of Taiwan fell by 91.4 percent last December against November figures, Rubaltic.ru reports
According to Scmp.com, $3.8m of goods were shipped to Chinese ports in December 2021; in November, the figure stood at $42.8m.
Sectors crucial to the Lithuanian economy faced total obliteration from the Chinese market, including unwrought copper-zinc alloy (the top export item in 2021), and wood products such as fir which was also among the top five exports. As reported, sales of other goods ‘faced a virtual wipeout’.
The EU sources say Beijing continues to deny a co-ordinated campaign. According to a Chinese representative, enterprises independently decided not to buy products from countries that ‘attacked China's sovereignty’.
