Historian on updated National Security Concept: it clearly identifies Belarus’ priorities

The updated National Security Concept and Military Doctrine will be submitted for approval to the Belarusian People's Congress scheduled to be held on April 24th-25th. Head of State Aleksandr Lukashenko noted earlier that ‘there is nothing more important than this’. In his talk with the ONT TV channel, a deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Igor Marzalyuk, commented on the issue.

“The National Security Concept clearly outlines all our priorities, since it identifies in detail all the most important challenges that our country may face," the MP noted. “It is a guide to action, and our opponents will study it seriously. We are preparing it for ourselves – to preserve our sovereignty. This is a concept of preserving peace in Belarus,” Mr. Marzalyuk said.

The historian stressed that, when talking about the updated National Security Concept, it is important to understand that it is comprehensive and that it takes into account all the most important segments of national security.

“Belarus is the only former Soviet republic that has implemented this convergence in practice – taking all the best that was possible, without losing a single point in its Soviet civilizational identity,” the MP noted. “At the same time, the country does not impose anything on anyone. Belarusians want to preserve, cultivate, transform and multiply this identity. It is important to understand: there is our country, we have our own priorities, our own world and space, and we will use any latest technology instrumentally. I had a slogan, it was a national motto: Belarusian Heart and Latest Technologies. These are two components which we are to use for our cultural and economic expansion globally – doing this not through war or with help of weapons, but by the power of our intellect and our brands. I am sure that, during our lifetime, we will see how Belarusian brands, cuisine, dances – everything which our nation is proud of – will be no less recognisable than sushi, kimonos, and everything else.”
