Gerasimov got into main draw of Guangzhou tennis tournament

Egor Gerasimov (ATP: 332) will compete in the main draw of 2024 Guangzhou Nansha International Challenger (China) with a prize fund of $82,000. This became clear on April 29th, after the Belarusian tennis player broke the resistance of Philip Sekulic from Australia (ATP: 262) in 2 hours and 25 minutes in the second round of qualifying – 1:6, 6:3, 7:6 (7:4).

The Australian was seeded number one in qualifying and was considered the favourite, but the representative of the Belarusian tennis school was able to gain the upper hand in a more than persistent struggle.

The Belarusian won only one game in the first set, although this development did not throw Egor Gerasimov off balance – the athlete played the second and third games better than his opponent. One break in the eighth game was enough for him to win the second set. In the decisive game, during which both tennis players won a return serve each, the Belarusian athlete tipped the scales in his favour on the tiebreak.

Previously, in the opening round of qualifying, Egor Gerasimov defeated Italian Federico Bondioli (ATP: 886) – 6:2, 7:6 (9:7).

At the stage of the 1/16 finals, the Belarusian tennis player will play with Beibit Zhukayev from Kazakhstan (ATP: 182).

In 2023, the winner of the Guangzhou tennis tournament was Frenchman Terence Atmane, who beat Australian Marc Polmans in the finals – 4:6, 7:6 (9:7), 6:4.
