Colonel Lukashevich: national ideology in foundation of Belarus’ statehood
The ideology of the Belarusian state is based on national unity, solidarity, and tolerance – as noted by Colonel Vadim Lukashevich, the Deputy Commander of the Special Operations Forces of Belarus’ Armed Forces for Ideology, in his talk with the SB TV channel

Speaking of what the ideology the Belarusian state is currently based on, the expert noted, “We, Belarusians, have a national feature that distinguishes us from neighbouring Ukraine which is now enduring tough times – an armed conflict: we remember and cherish our historical memory, we do not forget our Soviet past and the achievements of a great country, the Soviet Union. We remember the exploits of the liberators, veterans of the Great Patriotic War, we honour and thank them for the Victory, we educate our youth on these heroic deeds – and the Belarusian state ideology is unique due to that.”
Colonel Lukashevich stressed that ideology plays a huge role in ensuring national security, “A tense situation is developing around us, and we need to protect our country from hard times. It is necessary to ensure that our society is united and monolithic, that our people love their Homeland – and this is the key point of the ideology of the Belarusian state, aimed at peace, stability, development and prosperity of our country.”
The military expert explained why there is now a whole generation of people in Ukraine who once fought in the same trenches together with Russians but now view them as enemies, “The reason is deeply rooted in history. We remember that – when a great state, the Soviet Union, collapsed – Western Ukrainians began to impose Nazi and Russophobic ideology on the rest of Ukraine, and young people were the first to be influenced by those neo-Nazi views. We all saw how young people threw Molotov cocktails at their fellow citizens without any doubt during the Maidan unrest. We remember the events in Odessa in 2014, when neo-Nazis staged a second Khatyn [a village burnt down with all its residents by fascists during the Great Patriotic War] because of the St. George ribbons.”
Colonel Lukashevich added that the ideology of neo-Nazism – planted by Western Ukrainians – had been fed from the outside. “The United States and a number of Western European countries invested huge amounts of money to eventually turn Ukraine into an anti-Russia. The ideology of neo-Nazism, which makes heroes out of war criminals – such as Bandera and Shukhevych – covered the citizens of Ukraine and became one of the reasons for the launch of the special military operation by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. It was necessary to strangle this fascist, neo-Nazi nit at the root,” he stressed.
