Belarusian People’s Congress delegates laid flowers at Victory Monument

On the first day of the large-scale event, delegates paid tribute to the feat of the Great Patriotic War heroes. About fifty delegates of the Belarusian People’s Congress from the countrywide – people of different ages and professions, representatives of the executive and legislative authorities, civil society, heads of enterprises, public associations, and youth – laid flowers at the Victory Monument. The delegation was headed by representatives of the Council of the Republic and the House of Representatives.

This is a tribute to those who gave us peace and freedom at the cost of their own lives.

“The Belarusian People’s Congress is the supreme body of people’s power, whose purpose is to determine the strategic directions of the country’s development. This cannot be done without continuity of generations and consolidation of society. The connection of generations means the preservation of historical memory. We pay tribute to those who ensured our sovereignty and independence,” Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Vadim Ipatov underlined.

It is symbolic that the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress in a new constitutional status kicks off in the year of the 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from the Nazi invaders. Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Sergei Khomenko is confident that Belarusians are showing solidarity and unity amid any modern threats and challenges.

“Today we are on the threshold of a grandiose historical event. The Belarusian People’s Congress unites patriots of Belarus. It is traditional for our people to be involved in solving strategically important tasks aimed at preserving and strengthening statehood. It is symbolic that we have gathered at a sacred place – the Victory Monument – to pay tribute to those who defended our Motherland. We must be worthy of our ancestors in thoughts and deeds,” the official asserted.
