Belarus sets to start kaolin mining in 2024

It is planned to start kaolin mining in Belarus in 2024 – as informed by the Head of the Main Department of Natural Resources at Belarus’ Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Vasily Kolb, in his talk with the STV channel

“In just 18 months, our competence has been supplemented with new tasks in terms of co-ordinating the actions of state bodies for exploration and mining, as well as use and processing of minerals. We are now co-ordinating selective development of high-melting clays at the Gorodnoye deposit and kaolin at the Sitnitsa field. The kaolin that is being imported into Belarus is available in our country, and its mining will begin this year,” Mr. Kolb informed.

By now, about 50 types of minerals have been developed in Belarus, but only half of them are mined. For example, deposits of 13 types of natural resources have been explored in the Grodno Region.

“We have iron ore deposits, and there are only two of them in Belarus. As our scientists say, investors or potentially interested parties who will be able to develop these deposits are constrained by their depth. After all, financial issues reign here, and the profitability of extraction of a certain mineral matters,” Aleksandr Adamenko, the Deputy Chairman of the Grodno Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, added.
