Belarus sent MAZ vehicles to Syria as humanitarian aid

The second part of Belarus’ humanitarian aid of six MAZ cargo and construction vehicles has recently been dispatched to the Syrian Arab Republic. The machinery was delivered in accordance with Resolution No. 190 of Belarus’ Council of Ministers: On Humanitarian Assistance to the Syrian Arab Republic.

As reported by the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Syria, Yuri Sluka, signed an act on the humanitarian cargo transfer in the presence of the Governor of the Latakia Province, Amer Hilal, representatives of Syria’s Ministry of Local Administration and Environment, and the Ministry of Public Works.

“Belarus is always not indifferent to the suffering of other peoples. Our country has transferred a cargo of humanitarian aid to the Syrian Arab Republic," the Belarusian Foreign Ministry noted.

In 2015-2019, Belarus sent four batches of humanitarian aid to Syria – with children’s clothing and shoes, baby food, medicines and medical equipment, and also MAZ machinery.

"Syria's modern need in humanitarian assistance is especially increasing after the virtually uninterrupted 11-year war against terrorism and the illegal external interference of other countries in this Arab Republic’s internal affairs, as well as other disasters that have befallen the Syrian people, most of whom continue to depend entirely on humanitarian assistance," the Belarusian Foreign Ministry stressed.

In conditions of an external economic blockade, which almost completely deprives Syria of the opportunity to import equipment for various purposes, the Belarusian trucks will be used to restore industrial and civil infrastructure in the most affected areas of the country.

As noted by the Belarusian side, the MAZ vehicles sent as part of a humanitarian aid have become an undoubted contribution of Belarus to Syria’s post-conflict reconstruction.
