Zas: pandemic failed to consolidate world community

The COVID-19 pandemic has not justified the hopes for the consolidation of the world community in the face of a global threat – as stated by the CSTO Secretary General, Stanislav Zas, BelTA reports

Speaking at the Collective Security in a New Era: Experience and Prospects of the CSTO conference – held today at the Valdai Discussion Club in Moscow with the support of the Russian Foreign Ministry – Mr. Zas noted, “We now live and solve tasks in conditions of a growing international tension – both on global and regional scales. This negative trend of the international security degradation and the growth of international tension has been in place for at least several years – dramatically manifesting itself.”

"We had hopes that in the face of a new, unknown, global threat to humanity – the coronavirus pandemic – the nature of international relations would change, the aggressiveness of foreign policy would decrease, and the world community would consolidate. There have been certain appeals, including from UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, to put an end to all wars. We supported this call. However, all these appeals have failed to find a proper response, and that’s the way it is,” Mr. Zas added.
