Zakharova reproached Western media for silence about US major oil leak

The official representative of Russia’s Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, wondered why the American media and large non-governmental organisations are silent about the largest spill of crude oil in the United States over the past ten years, and noted their involvement, RIA Novosti reports

It became known several days ago that more than 14,000 barrels of oil got into a stream in the US state of Kansas as a result of a large-scale leak on the Keystone Pipeline owned by TC Energy. That was the largest crude oil spill in the United States in almost a decade.

"Have you heard anything about the American-Canadian Keystone Pipeline, and that a major environmental disaster of the past decade has recently occurred on the border of the American states of Kansas and Nebraska? By the way, large environmental NGOs and their branches in the US and Canada (Greenpeace USA, Greenpeace Canada, Nature Conservancy Canada, WWF, EDF, EICES, FFI, Global Green, IUCN, Birdlife International) are also silent," Ms. Zakharova emphasised.

As noted by the official representative of Russia’s Foreign Ministry, the American media report the accident in a dosed manner, since it is unprofitable for them to cover it widely. At the same time, Ms. Zakharova wondered where the ‘revealing’ articles from CNN, which actively cover incidents in other countries, are.

"How can such a catastrophe happen under the rule of Democrats who are known for their environmental bias? Ecology is ecology, but politics is on a scheduled basis," she summed up.
