Zakharova appreciated Belarus’ role in Russia-Ukraine peace talks
The Russian Federation insists that Belarus join the future agreements between the Russian Federation and Ukraine and act as one of the guarantors of Ukraine’s security – as stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, in her talk with ONT TV channel
“The logic here is obvious,” she said. “Firstly, it is the historical, geographical and economic involvement of Belarus in the affairs of our common region. Secondly, it is Belarus’ involvement in resolving the situation in Ukraine for a long time, when Minsk initially proactively and very constructively offered its assistance as a platform hosting the negotiation process at different levels. Minsk ensured both logistically and from the point of view of contacts, as well as in terms of political, informational, and moral support all those contacts, negotiations that were conducted. In this regard, the Belarusians played their role at the highest level, for what we especially thank them.”
Another important point is the balance of forces and interests, which is extremely important, according to Maria Zakharova. “Here the question is no longer about who is on which side; here the question is whether the representative of the respective country knows about the situation or does not know. Judging by the statements that we hear from Brussels and Washington, from any other capitals, they do not understand at all either the history of the situation or the current state of affairs,” summed up the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
