Xiaoyung: Belarus, China share similar approaches to World Anti-Fascist War memory

China is deeply grateful and will forever keep in its heart the memory of how many Red Army soldiers from Belarus went to fight in Northeast China and helped China defeat the Japanese invader – as stated by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Belarus, Xie Xiaoyung

“There is an old saying in China: ‘A strong memory of the past is the best adviser for the future’. China and Belarus attach great importance to the preservation of historical memory, especially the historical memory of the World Anti-Fascist War. Every year on September 18th when Japan invaded Northeast China, and on July 7th when Japan launched its full-scale aggressive war against China, air defence sirens are turned on in the country to remind people to cherish the history in their heart, remember the victims with sorrow and honour the memory of the heroes who were killed in the war against Japan. China has legislated December 13th (the day when the Japanese invaders began the Nanjing massacre) as National Day of Remembrance for the victims of that tragedy. Every year on September 3rd, various events are held in China dedicated to the victory in the War of Resistance and the World Anti-Fascist War. Belarus shares a similar approach in this regard,” the diplomat said.
