World-known Gaziantep Castle destroyed after quake in Turkiye

In Turkiye, the Gaziantep Castle – known as the best example of Turkish fortresses – collapsed due to powerful aftershocks, RIA Novosti reports

Gaziantep is included in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

A 7.4 magnitude earthquake was registered at 4:17am in the Kahramanmaras Province, and it resulted in destruction in a number of cities. As reported, at least 1,498 people were killed. Earlier, the figures of 912 killed and 5,385 injured were announced.

Destruction was also reported in several regions of Syria; the earthquake was felt in the Lebanese capital of Beirut.
