There are now approximately 160 confirmed cases of acute hepatitis of unknown origin worldwide. Experts consider various factors and sources of the disease.

The WHO representative underlined that no viruses have been found that provoke acute viral hepatitis (A, B, C, D and E), as well as known bacteria or viruses that cause indigestion or gastroenteritis.

Experts, referring to survey data, note that there is no connection with any food, drugs and travel to certain regions. There was also no association with drugs for vaccination against COVID-19. However, there is a possibility that infection is possible due to adenovirus.

According to current WHO data, cases of acute, severe hepatitis of unknown origin have been recorded among children in 12 countries, including the UK, Spain, Israel and America.
