WHO confirmed case of human infection with bird flu in India

The World Health Organisation reported that a case of human infection with bird flu caused by the H9N2 virus had been detected in a four-year-old child in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal, Reuters reports


According to WHO, the patient was admitted to the children's intensive care unit of a local hospital in February due to prolonged severe respiratory diseases, high fever and abdominal cramps. He was discharged three months later after being diagnosed and undergoing treatment.

"The patient had exposure to poultry at home and in his surroundings, and there were no known person reporting symptoms of respiratory illness among his family and other contacts," the publication reads.

That was the second case of human infection with H9N2 bird flu in India, the first was registered in 2019.
