WHO: 105,000+ people may die from malaria worldwide because of US
About 107,000 people in the world may die in 2025 due to the termination of the US funding for the fight against malaria – as stated by World Health Organisation Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, RIA Novosti reports
At a briefing in Geneva, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus noted, “Over the past two decades, the United States has become the largest bilateral donor in the fight against malaria, helping to prevent an estimated 2.2 billion cases and 12.7 million deaths. If the failures [in financing] continue, this year alone we may witness another 15 million cases of malaria and 107,000 deaths, which will negate fifteen years of progress.”
