When will kefir vaccine against COVID-19 become a reality?

Belarus’ Deputy Healthcare Minister, Chief State Sanitary Doctor Aleksandr Tarasenko, told ONT TV channel about the development of a kefir vaccine against COVID-19, BelTA reports

As previously reported, Belarusian medical scientists can take part in the creation of a kefir vaccine against COVID-19, which Russian specialists are currently working on.

“There are such intentions within the framework of the Union State, but it’s too early to talk about it, because there are no definite agreements yet,” Mr. Tarasenko specified.

This prototype of the vaccine refers to vector vaccines. The bacterium Enterococcus, which lives in the body of every mammal, acts as a vector. The coronavirus gene is planted to it, to which the body’s immune system reacts and begins to produce antibodies. Those who want to be vaccinated need to drink two glasses of 200g each, and not at the same time. The first glass is divided into three parts, each of which is drunk every other day. Then follows a break for three weeks. The second glass is drunk in the same way.

“Yes, a glass of kefir is consumed and then immunity is developed. But I repeat once again, while this is all under development,” noted the Deputy Healthcare Minister.

Aleksandr Tarasenko also answered the question when the pandemic will end. “There is an opinion that this year. But I think that this year we will not finish this fight, so to speak, with a new coronavirus infection. But, as an epidemiologist, I would like to see the seasonality, and the application of preventive measures during the rise of the epidemiological season,” he added.
