On the night of August 1st, in light of the aggravation of the situation in Kosovo, Aleksandar Vucic visited the General Staff and talked with the Serbian army’s command.

"It is very important for us that the dialogue [with Pristina under the auspices of the EU] was continued. We will try to resolve the issues peacefully," the President of Serbia stressed, expressing confidence that it will be possible soon to hear good news on the current situation. "I hope if not tonight, so tomorrow there will be a de-escalation, and we will have time to prepare for a conversation and come to a compromise solution to keep the peace,” he added. Aleksandar Vucic also noted that Belgrade is ‘working to reduce tensions, doing everything it can and how it can’. “No matter how difficult it is, there will be no surrender and Serbia will win," the politician added, thanking the Kosovo Serbs for restraint.

As for the international reaction, Aleksandar Vucic expressed gratitude to the Russian side, as well as EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrell and other representatives of the European Union for their ‘correct reaction’ to what is happening.
