Volodin: US lost support of most countries

Recent UN votes show that the United States has lost support of the majority of the world – as noted by the Russian State Duma Speaker, Vyacheslav Volodin, TASS reports

According to Mr. Volodin, the UN General Assembly studied an issue of condemning a special military operation in Ukraine in early March. “Forty countries refused to act against Russia, including China, India, Iran, Iraq, Vietnam, South Africa, Algeria, Pakistan, and others. The population of these states makes 4.47bn – or 57.3 percent of the world's population," he noted.

In addition, in April, an issue of suspending Russia's membership in the UN Human Rights Council was considered. “Eighty-two countries – including China, India, Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, UAE, Mexico, South Africa, Malaysia, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Kenya, and others – did not vote against Russia. 76.2 percent of the world's population – 5.93bn – live there,” Mr. Volodin said.

As noted by the official, these two examples demonstrate that ‘the majority of decisions taken at the UN are often actually backed by a minority’, “For this reason, Joe Biden seeks to reform the UN: to maintain the position of the United States. He desperately wants to preserve a unipolar model that has outlived itself.” Mr. Volodin added that, when discussing Russia's position, ‘the majority of the world's population’ is on its side.

"All attempts by Washington and Brussels to isolate Russia have failed,” the Russian State Duma Speaker believes.
