Volfovich spoke of situation around Belarus at high-level international meeting on security issues

The State Secretary of Belarus’ Security Council, Aleksandr Volfovich, has addressed the participants of a high-level international meeting on security issues held in Moscow commenting on the situation around Belarus, BelTA reports

“In our report, we shed light on the internal situation in Belarus, also touching upon the challenges and risks that the country is experiencing along its external perimeter. The events happening around Belarus at present cannot but alarm us: militarisation is progressing, primarily on the territory of Poland, and the Baltic States are also not lagging behind. American curators are behind this,” Mr. Volfovich told reporters on the side-lines of the event that brought together delegations from more than 100 countries.

The State Secretary emphasised that Poland had brought its military spending to 4 percent of GDP. The country is now creating new formations and modernising its military infrastructure. Military groups are concentrated near the borders of Belarus, a large number of exercises are being conducted.

“All this cannot but alarm us. Therefore, the leadership of Belarus has drawn the appropriate conclusions and, together with Russia, is taking relevant steps to ensure security. The conducted drills and inspections have shown that the existing system of training and maintenance of the Armed Forces is capable. Of course, there are certain points that need to be corrected, but this is actually the purpose of training. In general, we are ready to neutralise possible challenges and threats, and this has been discussed at the high-level meeting," Mr. Volfovich stressed. He added that the meeting participants noted that the attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign states that pursue independent policies and protect their national interests, identity and historical truth are a common threat to all. “Representatives of different countries shared their views on a possible response,” the State Secretary noted.

“It is gratifying that, after a three-year break, this international high-level meeting of those overseeing security issues has been organised in the Moscow Region. The relevance of this event is obvious, since the geopolitical situation in the world is extremely aggravated, and the trends, unfortunately, are not comforting. To normalise the situation, dialogue and such conferences are necessary. The present event has gathered 112 delegations, and this indicates an interest in peace and security," Mr. Volfovich stressed.

According to him, the most pressing issues of international and regional security were discussed at the meeting. In addition, issues of world food security were touched upon, including in the context of the fact that other states suffer because of the illegal Western sanctions against Belarusian fertilisers. The agenda also included information security, the fight against drug trafficking and international terrorism.

“Security issues in the European region were touched upon in the light of the ongoing special military operation in Ukraine. Everyone comes to the general conclusion that it is necessary to sit down at the negotiating table, find ways and prevent this crisis, which affects the whole of Europe. Americans are behind the ongoing events. They do not want the crisis to be stopped, so that a special military operation comes to its logical conclusion. Therefore, they are pushing Europe [to get involved], and Ukraine acts as a buffer in this situation. Sadly, the Ukrainian leadership does not want to draw conclusions and follow the path of a peaceful settlement," Mr. Volfovich said.

As noted by the State Secretary, apart from the general events, the Belarusian delegation is also scheduled to hold a number of bilateral meetings, including with the delegations of China and India. The latter currently chairs the SCO, and Belarus is in the process of accelerated accession to this organisation.
