Volfovich: sanctions and cyber threats gave rise to many new challenges

Political and economic sanctions, cyber threats have generated many new challenges and threats – as noted by the State Secretary of the Security Council, Aleksandr Volfovich, before the CSTO PA meeting in Minsk

“In recent times, we have been increasingly registering an increase in cyber-attacks on our country. We were ready for this, and the Presidential decree On Cybersecurity is in force in Belarus. The latter defines the legal basis for the creation and functioning of the national cybersecurity system, which provides for the formation of a complex multi-level mechanism to counter cyber-attacks on government agencies, organisations and critical information infrastructure. We promptly respond to various attacks and threats, moving forward and improving the system of reaction to acts of terrorism and the activities of terrorist organisations. All innovations are tested in practice, we see a positive result,” Mr. Volfovich said.

The State Secretary of the Security Council noted that the CSTO PA meeting is taking place in conditions of an extreme aggravation of the military-political situation, unleashed hybrid wars of various scales in different corners of the world.

“Political and economic sanctions, cyber threats have generated a lot of new challenges and threats in the field of security – not just for the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, but for the world as a whole. This must be understood. The most important problem on the European continent is to stop the military conflict on the territory of Ukraine. If it is not stopped, if security measures are not agreed upon, if solutions to the existing issues are not found, and if a peaceful dialogue is not launched – which the President of Belarus has always drawn attention to – then the situation similar to that on the eve of WWI may break out. The Head of State always says: let's get together, find solutions and compromises in order to stop the unnecessary bloodshed. Minsk is ready to provide a platform for discussing all problematic and acute issues, finding solutions for the benefit of the security of peoples and countries.”

According to Mr. Volfovich, the forms and methods of using the Armed Forces and military formations, of protecting the state border, as well as other issues related to national security issues are being maintained and improved in Belarus, based on the existing challenges and threats.
