“Every president [of Belarus and Russia] has his own ‘red button’, his suitcase and his nuclear briefcase,” Mr. Volfovich said.

The State Secretary of the Security Council stressed that this is not a joke.

“Nuclear weapons, which are placed in Belarus, can be used only by the President of Belarus, while the weapons, which are stationed in Russia, can be used, respectively, only by the President of Russia,” he explained. “Each of them has their own rights and duties. Aleksandr Lukashenko has the duty to protect the national interests and sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus, while Vladimir Putin has the same duty to protect Russia. And together the two leaders of our countries are responsible for the fate of the Union State.”
