Volfovich: Belarus’ Armed Forces and other military formations serve in enhanced format

The Armed Forces of Belarus and other military formations serve in an enhanced format, covering border guards from the west and south – as informed by the State Secretary of the Security Council, Aleksandr Volfovich, at the CSTO PA meeting in Minsk

“In order to ensure the stability of military security and the military situation, the force structures of Belarus, primarily the Armed Forces and other troops and military formations, have been put into an enhanced duty regime. The military deployed at the state border ‘cover actions of the border service bodies in order to prevent various provocations’ – primarily, from the western direction. This is being done to avoid us and the Armed Forces of Russia, which are conducting the special military operation on the territory of Ukraine, from being attacked in the back from the western direction,” Mr. Volfovich stated.

According to the State Secretary of the Security Council, this also applies to the southern borders of Belarus, although the border of Belarus with Ukraine was previously fully open. “They are our friendly people, but attempts have been made recently to cross the border from the territory of Ukraine and commit sabotage. Attempts are recorded to bring weapons, explosives and other ‘things not for the benefit of peace’ to Belarus through the Ukrainian border. Based on the existing challenges and threats to security, the methods of using the Armed Forces and other military formations in the protection of the state border and other issues are also being improved,” he stressed.

Mr. Volfovich added that Belarus has already established a state system for responding to acts of terrorism, the activities of terrorist organisations, illegal armed formations. The verification of this system has shown positive results. As noted by the State Secretary, NATO has become more active and is ready for military aggression, “Dangerous qualitative changes are being recorded in the activities of NATO. The military groups of the North Atlantic Alliance, concentrated today on the continent, are capable of unleashing military aggression even without mobilisation deployment. This forces both Belarus and Russia to take new active measures of strategic deterrence, including ‘steps to deploy tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus’. The activities of NATO demonstrate that all the security guarantees that the collective West once gave have been violated by now.”

During his report, Mr. Volfovich announced a number of large-scale military exercises on the territory of Belarus.
