Vatican believes it could become negotiating platform to settle Ukraine conflict
Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin said that it is quite possible to organise a meeting of Ukrainian and Russian delegations in the country to resolve the conflict, TASS reports
The Secretary of State responded to the relevant question of the news agency, “We are ready, the Vatican could be a suitable venue for this. We were looking for an opportunity to offer a meeting of the parties and at the same time maintain a balance. Our desire is to offer a place for dialogue without preconditions.”
In his opinion, the parties should determine the format of the dialogue themselves.
The Vatican has repeatedly pointed to the readiness of the Holy See to do everything possible to establish a dialogue between the Russian Federation and Ukraine. Pope Francis has stated that the Vatican is working to bring positions closer and find solutions on Ukraine.
