US to send about 2,500 soldiers to Europe to boost NATO’s presence in the region

NATO intends to boost its military presence in Europe, closer to its eastern part. To do this, 2,400 soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division of the United States will be deployed to Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia, TASS reports.

As the US mission to the North Atlantic Alliance explained, the redirection of soldiers to Europe is aimed at ‘defending NATO’s eastern border, strengthening allies and deterring adversaries’.

Earlier US President Joe Biden announced plans to build up the US military presence in Europe. At the same time, US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin stressed that NATO does not seek to confront Russia.
