As the US mission to the North Atlantic Alliance explained, the redirection of soldiers to Europe is aimed at ‘defending NATO’s eastern border, strengthening allies and deterring adversaries’.

Earlier US President Joe Biden announced plans to build up the US military presence in Europe. At the same time, US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin stressed that NATO does not seek to confront Russia.
