US state of Texas halts funding for border wall construction with Mexico
According to the Texas Tribune portal, as part of the new budget, the US state of Texas has ceased funding the building of a wall along the US-Mexico border, RIA Novosti reports
As previously stated, four years after Governor Greg Abbott announced ‘that Texas would become the first state to build its own wall on the border’, lawmakers have quietly stopped funding the project, ‘leaving only scattered segments covering a small fraction of the border’.
Only 8 percent of the approximately 1,295km of the territory has been completed. This has cost taxpayers over $3bn.
