US likely to deprive 530,000+ migrants of their legal status
The US President Administration is going to deprive more than 530,000 migrants of their temporary legal status, and if the initiative is approved, their temporary stay programmes will expire on April 24th, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the NBC TV channel
Migrants who entered the country under a special programme introduced in times of Joe Biden’s presidency in 2023 are in focus. The programme allowed foreigners to enter the United States with the support of an American sponsor and work in the country for two years. According to NBC, the authorities suspended the admission of migrants under that programme for some time in 2024 due to concerns that it was used for fraudulent transactions.
As reported, Trump’s administration intends to revoke the temporary legal status of more than 530,000 people who arrived in the United States from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela under the entry and temporary residence permit programmes for foreigners developed in Biden’s times.
As explained in the United States, these programmes do not bring significant public benefits, are not necessary to reduce the level of illegal immigration, do not sufficiently mitigate the consequences of illegal immigration to the United States, do not serve their goals and contradict the foreign policy goals of the Trump administration.
