“COVID-19 will not be the last pandemic humanity will face. As we respond to this health crisis, we need to prepare for the next one,” wrote António Guterres on his Twitter account.

“On this International Day of Epidemic Preparedness, let’s give this issue the focus, attention and investment it deserves,” he noted.

To draw attention to the problem of preventing epidemics, increasing preparedness and consolidating efforts to combat them, last year, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution establishing the International Day of Epidemic Preparedness, which is celebrated on December 27th.

For all the time, 280,338,595 cases of coronavirus infection have been detected worldwide. The total number of deaths because of COVID-19 was 5,416,734 while 250,368,948 people – who had previously tested positive for coronavirus – recovered.
