It is informed that refugee rations are planned to be reduced by almost half. According to the UN, that was a difficult decision.

"We are being forced to make the heart-breaking decision to cut food rations for refugees who rely on us for their survival," the WFP Executive Director, David Beasley, said.

Based on the UN estimates, refugees from Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan and Uganda will suffer the most from this decision.

Food problems – due to which the decision has been made – are related to the situation in Ukraine and anti-Russian sanctions. At the moment, serious problems with grain supplies are registered, and, since early 2022, wheat and corn prices have increased significantly. As noted at the UN Security Council meeting held in late May, global wheat stocks are enough for ten weeks only.
