UN: Türkiye earthquake rescue operation the largest for the organisation

The Director of UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Co-ordination Division, Ramesh Rajasingham, noted that the search and rescue operation after the earthquakes in Türkiye has become the largest of those regulated by the UN, Anadolu reports

It is noted that 38 countries participated in the search and rescue operation in Türkiye.

“This was the largest international rescue operation ever co-ordinated by the UN. The International Search and Rescue Advisory Group [INSARAG] and the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Co-ordination Group [UNDAC] alone involved 49 teams from dozens of countries,” said Ramesh Rajasingham.

According to known information, representatives of INSARAG were able to save about 300 people.

“This is a record number of rescues in the history of our operations,” he stated.
