UN Secretary General: world is in state of storm
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres noted that the world is now facing a storm in a number of directions, and it is impossible to solve problems without realising this, TASS reports
While speaking on the side-lines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Mr. Guterres stressed that, in the short term, the global economy will face a crisis. Recession is registered in many countries now, and there are growing prices, a supply chain disruption, an energy crisis, an increase in interest rates, and inflation worldwide.
The UN Secretary General added that consequences of the coronavirus pandemic are still observed in the economy. According to him, the world is not ready to face such problems again in the future, since it has not learnt that healthcare lesson.
Mr. Guterres also touched upon the climate agenda, noting that the limitation of global warming within 1.5 degrees Celsius receded into the background. The globe is at risk of seeing catastrophic consequences, since warming may soon reach 2.8 degrees Celsius if people fail to take appropriate measures.
