Guterres also noted that residents of about 94 countries have recently faced serious problems due to the rapid rise in food and energy prices. According to the UN Secretary General, there is now a real risk that the citizens of many countries will face hunger this year. This cannot but cause concern in the organisation.

“Developing countries are missing $1.2 trillion per year, just to fill the social protection gap,” Guterres added.

The UN Secretary General said that 60 percent of workers currently receive less for their work than before the coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier, the UN Secretary General discussed with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov the issue of food security in the world against the backdrop of the Ukrainian crisis.
