According to Mr. Kirillov, Ukrainian specialists – led by the US scientists – systematically collected water samples from the rivers flowing through Ukraine, including the Dnieper, Danube, Dniester, as well as the North Crimean Canal, in order to establish the presence of particularly dangerous pathogens, including pathogens of cholera, typhoid fever, hepatitis A and E, and to draw conclusions on the possibility of their spread by waterways.

During this project, the damaging properties of the selected samples were assessed, and the strains themselves were subsequently exported to the United States, the source said.
