UK unveils first King Charles III stamps

The Royal Mail of Great Britain has demonstrated the first stamps with the image of King Charles III, who is depicted in profile, facing left – a tradition that has continued since the first postage stamp with a portrait of Queen Victoria in 1840, according to the Times

Royal Mail Director of External Affairs, David Gold, noted that the stamp has its own characteristics, since the monarch is depicted on it without jewellery and a crown.

“It’s a very human image, with no embellishment,” said David Gold.

It is known that the portrait of Charles III was made by the artist Martin Jennings commissioned by the Royal Mint.

The publication emphasises that the new stamp can be seen at the London Postal Museum. The exhibition will run until September 3rd, 2023.

Stamps with the image of Charles III will go on sale as early as April 4th this year, but post offices will not sell them until stocks of stamps with the portrait of Elizabeth II run out. For some period of time, stamps with images of the current and previous monarchs will be in circulation at the same time.

Earlier, the design of banknotes and coins with the image of Charles III was presented. They will co-circulate with notes featuring the Queen’s portrait, which will remain legal tender in the UK.
