According to Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, by doing so, Turkey completes the process of increasing the value of Turkey as a brand, initiated by the country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. “We have sent a letter to the Secretariat of the UN Secretary General and thus register the foreign name of our country in the UN as Türkiye,” said the Turkish Foreign Minister.

According to Anadolu news agency, Spokesperson for the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric said the organisation had complied with Turkey’s request. Therefore, instead of the traditional name Turkey, all international forums and official documents will now use Türkiye, as it is pronounced in Turkish.
