Truss said she would remain PM until a successor is chosen. The politician also said that the election of the new leader of the Conservative Party will be held next week.

Earlier, the British government, led by Truss, faced criticism over a new plan to support the economy and fears that the government would increase the amount of public debt to implement it. The plan was presented in Parliament by the former head of the Ministry of Finance Kwasi Kwarteng, the project involved a large-scale tax cut. After its announcement, British five-year government bond yields rose to their highest since late 2008 – 4.6 percent – means a decrease in demand for debt securities.

Liz Truss will become the first British PM who has been in office for the shortest time in history.
