Solidarity with Lukashenko and Belarusian people expressed at today’s conference in Serbian Belgrade
The Serbian conservative movement Nasi [Ours] has organised a conference in Belgrade in support of the President of Belarus and the Belarusian people on the occasion of the forthcoming Presidential election in the country
According to the organisers, the conference is an opportunity to highlight the role of Belarus’ President as a symbol of the struggle for independence and freedom from foreign influence.
In his opening remarks, Nasi leader Ivan Ivanovic noted, “Today’s event can be called a gesture of solidarity and support for our brotherly Belarusian people and their leader, President Aleksandr Lukashenko. We have seen many times how Minsk, despite everything, has firmly maintained its position and expressed its friendly attitude towards Serbia and its support for its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Belarus has set an example and supported us, including when voting in the UN General Assembly on Srebrenica.”
Ivan Ivanovic reminded the audience of the historic visit of the Belarusian leader to Serbia. Back then, during the 1999 bombings, despite warnings of serious threats to life, Aleksandr Lukashenko flew to Belgrade to support Serbia and the Serbian people. Then the President of Belarus said, “My visit to Yugoslavia at this dramatic time can bring the resolution of the problem closer, at least a few millimetres, at least a little bit. The goal is to negotiate a peaceful solution.” The Serbian people remember this act and are grateful to the Belarusian leader for it.
The Serbian politician also told the audience about the Presidential election in Belarus and the participants of the election race, briefly characterising each of the candidates, “In my opinion, there is one of the brightest manifestations of the democratism of the Belarusian political system: there is a real alternative basis for elections, when all constructive political forces have an opportunity to nominate their candidate for the Presidential post.”
