Three records added to Belarus’ Book of Records: huge can of condensed milk and biggest sugar cube

The certificates from the national register of Belarus’ Book of Records have been handed over today to representatives of the Rogachev Dairy Canning Plant and the Gorodeya Sugar Refinery

The Gorodeya Sugar Refinery has become a two-time record holder in Belarus’ Book of Records. The company produced 191,000 tonnes of sugar from sugar beet in a year, and also produced a record cube of pressed sugar weighing 135kg.

Enterprise’s chief technologist Yuri Khmelinko gave more details about the large-scale results, “Our annual sugar production is at the level of 190,000 tonnes. By the end of the 2024 season, we managed to raise the figure. Basically, 50 percent of sugar remains on the domestic market, and the same amount is exported to the CIS countries, while the Asian market is also developing. In addition to classic sugar, we also make sugar with mint, cinnamon and lemon flavours. They are all very much in demand.”

The idea of producing the largest cube of pressed sugar came spontaneously, Yuri Khmelinko admitted, taking a month to create it. For comparison, a standard sugar cube weighs up to 3gr.

“Of course, it’s all handmade. It wasn’t easy, but we’ve achieved our goal. In order for the sugar to compress, keep the shape of the facets and not crack, it needs to be moistened and then dried. That’s why we adjusted the temperature regime. In the future, we will scale up the idea, and we plan to create a new project,” the specialist added.

It is not new for the Rogachev Dairy Canning Plant to become a record breaker. The start was given back in 2022, when the company produced a can of condensed milk weighing 485.5kg. The team does not stop there and breaks their own records by producing the largest can of condensed milk weighing one tonne. By the way, at the end of the last year, the three billionth can of classic condensed milk weighing 380gr came off the enterprise’s conveyor belt.

“The idea was suggested by the management and, of course, it was within the capabilities of our team,” Deputy General Director for Ideological Work Galina Zamorskaya said. “Therefore, the production of this product was a usual, everyday work for us: we observed all the technologies and monitored the quality. It took a week to create it. Afterwards, we handed over the giant can of condensed milk to one of the military units.”

Chief expert of the national register of Belarus’ Book of Records Kirill Shimko presented the certificates to the record breakers.
