Third of early crops sown in Belarus

Spring grain and leguminous crops (except for corn, buckwheat and millet) have been sown on the territory of 214,000 hectares – which makes 33.2 percent of the planned figure. As reported by Belarus’ Agriculture and Food Ministry, it was 30.4 percent last year.

Due to nonuniform climatic conditions, the figure varies countrywide. In the Brest Region, 77 percent have been sown so far, in the Grodno Region – 66 percent, in the Gomel Region – 49 percent, in the Minsk Region – 17 percent, and in the Mogilev Region – about 2 percent. Less than one percent of crops has been sown in the Vitebsk Region.

Winter cereals, cruciferous crops and perennial grasses are also being actively fertilised. By now, the accumulation of mineral fertilisers makes 63 percent (of the planned figure) – against 47 percent a year ago. Almost all planned organic substances have been taken to fields, and over a half of them have been distributed for spring sowing.
